Vision Australia Foundation was formerly known as the Association for the Blind. We are a not-for-profit organisation and have provided vital services for people with blindness, vision impairment and other disabilities since 1895. Vision Australia Foundation is also an advocate for the rights of people with disabilities and provides consultancy services to improve access and safety in buildings, along streets and on public transport. We help companies and organisations to meet their obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act.
Independence is vital for a fulfilling and enjoyable lifestyle, and Vision Australia Foundation services nearly 20,000 people with this firmly in mind. Most people with vision impairment have partial sight and only a small percentage are blind. This means people require a wide range of services to ensure they can maximise their remaining vision or skills. Some require training from a young age, while many others need help later in life due to illness, accidents or ageing.
