Adult and Community Education (ACE) in Gippsland
Each year over 12,000 people enrol in adult and community education centres across Gippsland. In these centres young people develop new skills and knowledge, migrants learn English, people already in the workforce and job seekers improve their skills, and older adults continue their learning. Over 500,000 student contact hours are delivered across Gippsland. ACE is community owned and managed.
ACE gives Gippslanders of all ages and backgrounds, opportunities to develop their interests and skills through courses such as language and literacy, return to study, arts, stress management, computers, information technology and hundreds more. Neighbourhood Houses and local learning centres provide these opportunities for learning.
There are over 50 ACE providers across Gippsland. Most Gippslanders are within reach of an ACE Provider to continue learning throughout their lives. These centres foster lifelong learning, community development and business enterprise.
ACE is one of the fours sectors of education. The other sectors are schools, universities and TAFEs. ACE providers receive government funding for some programs and may charge fees at an affordable level. Programs may be accredited which means they are recognised by government and industry around Australia. Others are short courses, which people do purely for interest. People can easily take programs in more than one sector over time to further their learning.
