“Morning has broken…” and “Oh what a beautiful morning” it was as members of AA01, AA02 and AA03 flocked to Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra for VIEW’s IWD Big BBQ Breakfast!
The shores of Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra’s Parliamentary Triangle provided a very scenic vista and sights of the Carillion, Captain Cook Water Jet, the Australian National Library, the Art Gallery and the High Court … with Parliament house looming in the background. Zone Councillors Fiona and Chris arrived at the crack of dawn in true VIEW style loaded up with everything but the kitchen sink ~ BBQ’s, tables, eskies and enough food to feed an army ~ all loaded on trailers and utes! The early birds were treated to a refreshing walk around the lake led by National Vice President Rhonda Spottiswood, while Zone Councillors Fiona and Chris fired up the barbecues for a four course gastronomes delight ~ cereals, fruits, bacon, eggs, sausages, steak, ham, tomatoes, hashbrowns, bread rolls, homemade cakes, slices and biscuits and coffee/tea! All for the wonderful price of $10.00! Following breakfast and lots of chit chat, members participated in an IWD Quiz Game about Ordinary Australian Women who have done Extraordinary Things. Discussions surrounding the VIEW IWD Theme: “Contemporary Women & Traditional Values“ highlighted some of our members extraordinary experiences; how lucky we are in Australia; and the hardships other women have or do face everyday. Proceeds from the morning were donated to The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program. Those who attended suggested all proceeds from next years VIEW IWD Big BBQ Breakfast will target projects specifically benefiting Learning For Life mothers or female students. A fabulous morning celebrating as women and socialising with VIEW friends. Members wandered away deep in thought about the meaning of IWD and thinking of VIEW friends just before the heavens opened and we were “Singing in the Rain”! Oh yes I am wise But it's wisdom born of pain Yes, I've paid the price But look how much I gained If I have to, I can do anything I am strong I am invincible I am woman To view more photo's of this event see link below to the VIEW Online website, and look for the IWD Album. |
