The Williamstown Bowling club is one of the oldest bowling clubs in Victoria. The Club had its beginning at the Mechanics Institute on the 9th June 1880.The Club formed a three rink green on land adjoining and erected its first pavilion in 1883. In 1888a new green of 8 rinks and a two room veranda pavilion was opened in our present location in the now named Dennis Reserve. In 1889 the Club adopted its first constitution declaring the club colours royal blue and yellow which still remain as club colours In 1919 electric light was installed and that installation was replaced by the present system on our two seven rink greens in 1966. Over the years the Clubhouse had various alterations and extensions and was eventually demolished and the present Clubhouse was opened in 1991.The Club now fields four sides in the RVBA Metropolitan Pennant Competition.
The Club is always looking for new members and has qualified coaches to teach anyone interested in playing bowls. |
