1. Mission
WAG is a committee of volunteers in the Whitelion one2one Mentoring Program. WAG aims to promote positive group activities that facilitate and support purposeful voluntary relationships between young people in the juvenile justice system and adult mentors.
The activities of the Mentor Program address disadvantage and alienation through providing opportunities for connection to community, vocation, recreation and relationships.
2. Project Objectives
Each WAG Project seeks to provide opportunities for young people in the juvenile justice system:
- Vocation: education, employment
- Recreation: active lifestyle, arts, social
- Community: relationships, mentoring, life skills
3. Project Goals
To provide participants with opportunities such as:
- Links, access or experience that may lead to education.
- Skills that will enhance or may lead to opportunities for employment.
- Participation in active recreation.
- Creative expression and/or skills development.
- Involvement in a social activity.
- Relationships within a pro-social group of peers and volunteers.
- Access to community resources.
- Interaction with volunteers and the potential to build a one on one ongoing mentor relationship.
- Development of practical and relevant life skills.
