Houseboating on the Murray

Skipper Brian took on the challenge of steering our houseboat in his stride and lived to tell some tales :-)
Speed limit of 4km
The boating speed varied from about 4km to 8km an hour. On our trip we cruised from Mildura (Bruce's Bend) through Lock 11 to Dareton downstream. We cruised for 22 hours in total over 3 days. The picture here shows us about to go under the Bridge at Mildura.
Reflections in the evening
Ahhh this is where it is at! Looking from the top deck of our boat sipping a quiet one and soaking up the ambience. We had perfect weather everyday... with these clouds producing a few drops the most for the whole trip.

Yes Viv did steer the boat on a number of occasions. In this photo you can see Pat & Max in the window reflecting on Viv stepping up to the challenge :-) When it came to parking on the rivers edge Viv took the easy way out and leapt onto the rivers edge to quickly tie the boat to moorings - her Guiding rope tying coming to the fore! Can I also add that Pat & Max took the girls away for a few days in Dareton so we had a few days to ourselves... wonderful :-)
The Evans family enjoyed a holiday houseboating on the Murray. This trip was filled with moments of 'excitement', especially as we were novice boaters! The >60 foot houseboat takes some time to react to steering, wind adds to the challenge (when it is about) and huge submerged trees can lurk underneath when you are trying to 'park' on the waters' edge.

The challenges were invigorating and once over the few 'scary'out of control moments we certainly had a great giggle... reliving the moments :-)

What a relaxing jaunt with your house floating with you... washing dishes can't get much better than this!! If you have to do dishes why not with a view as you cruise along the mighty Murray.

A Wonderful holiday getting out of 'our routine',relaxing cruising on the river, the birdlife was brilliant, the weather perfect everyday and of course the company excellent!
