Lightening runs down 3 trees

Looking up the Stringy bark
See the path the lightening travelled down the tree - blasting stringy bark over 12 metres away
Bloodwood split
This hit shot pieces of wood around it in a variety of directions.

4th February 2007

Going for a regular morning walk came across some bits of freshly torn bark on the ground and kept seeing more and more as we walked up hill until we discovered a tree with a split down the length of it and then on further investigation realised 3 different trees had been hit.... a stringy bark, an iron bark and a bloodwood.

The iron bark split off pieces of timber rather than bark. One piece we picked up at around 8am was still damp so we figured it was from the storm the evening before (We had been watching lightning strikes on our side of town as we drove from Tooraweenah North to Coonabarabran) The storm had blown further North by the time we got home. All of 1mm rain was recorded.
