Just up the road
After we left the scene of where the tornado hit the highway we decided to take a photo of 'just up the road' to give you a picture of what the area should look like before you see the other photos

Looking back towards the direction of the photo above. Quite a different picture. According to the 'Coonabarabran Times'(27/1/05) One vehicle was trapped in the middle of the destruction, with its windscreen blown in by the force of the gusting winds' Likely it was hit by all the debris. These photos were taken 6 days later after the road had been cleared... road was completely blocked on 20th Jan.

| Well hopefully you have seen my first page showing the storm formation that my husband and I witnessed on January 20th 2005. If not follow the link to Storm below.
After witnessing the storm it took us 5 days to find out where it had actually hit the ground. We had passed close to the starting point a number of times. (This info is according to research made by Rob McNaught, Tanya Smith and Gordon Garradd who are all volunteer storm spotters for the Bureau of Meterology - See the link below for amazing details and maps) At the time we thought the tornado was further away!! In reality it was much closer... our boundary is only a few hundred metres from the property where Rob & Gordon reckon it started. On Australia Day we went for a drive to see the damage on the highway and took the photos you see on this page. Will keep uploading info as I get time.. slow speed makes uploading photos time consuming. So watch this space and especially Rob's website as he will walk the path over the weekend and networks with people who have information about the tornado itself. Cheers Vivian Evans |
