Why we support The Smith Family -
What sets VIEW apart from other women’s organisation is that members work together for a common purpose. Research shows that women join VIEW because it is part of something bigger –The Smith Family. For members of VIEW, it is important that they are able to ‘give back’ to the community by actively working with The Smith Family. How do we support The Smith Family programs? VIEW has also contributed over $1 million cash each year to The Smith Family for the past 18 years, which is vital to continue providing support to disadvantaged Australian children and their families in the places where it is needed most. Members are engaged with The Smith Family in many ways. VIEW is committed to providing educational opportunities for Australian children - at present 400+ Learning for Life students(27000 in total) are sponsored by VIEW clubs. Members also engage with many Smith Family programs, such as student2student, Homework Clubs, craft clubs and mentoring. They conduct ‘special efforts’ – for example, in Victoria clubs contributed enough new books to include a book in each of the 5,000 toy packs to be distributed by The Smith Family at Christmas. WA clubs make library bags for LfL students and many clubs around Australia donate school stationery packs so that all LfL students go back to school with adequate supplies. VIEW volunteers also perform administrative tasks at Smith Family offices. They represent The Smith Family as speakers. They participate in activities at Christmas such as collecting books and toys, wrapping gifts in a shopping centre, sorting toys and books for distribution. Some practical ways VIEW Clubs raised money for Learning for Life scholarships and contributed books and other goods for Christmas parcels.
