We met at the Little River railway station in our cars; and adjourned to a friendlier roadside location to set up and set off. The road was clear, the drivers courteously giving us a wide berth, and the company was delightful. Robert and Jana attended on the tandem, Ludo and Renild were there on their 'bents', John on the Xevon, Jon on his DIY Greenspeed and Adrienne on her Greenspeed tourer.
Getting ready outside the Little River Railway Station
Our optimism drove off all but a few drops of threatened rain visible from the Westgate on the way to our destination.
It rained ...but it did not!
Only once we encountered a brief shower, and in some places we rode on wet roads through trees smelling fresh from the rain that had fallen just ahead of us.
Well...just a little bit.
Lunch in the national park was a pleasant rest; Robert's sense of humour was in full swing.
Picnic at You Yangs Park
One amusing sight along the way was a sign declaring a “biodiversity conservation area” alongside a uniformly golden Canola crop. Even better was the kid on a buzzbox mini-motorbike zooming past us in Lara, staring over one shoulder at our bikes then getting the shock of his life when John overtook him on the other side on the Xevon.....the guy nearly got whiplash! Mind you after blowing away the field at the Ford Test Track, John was merely warmed up! Who said its not the fastest recumbent...?
On the way to Lara for cappuccino
We arrived at Lara hanging out for a cappuccino, only to find the cafes (both of them) were closed. Luckily for us the local Pizza restaurant was opening up and supplied the cappuccinos before true desperation could set in. We returned to our cars, packed up, gossiped, then wended our ways home in contentment that yet another successful Spontaneous ride had taken place.
'Be Spon' at its best!
