Knox Cycleway, 4th May, 2003

What a gorgeous day! Melbourne Autumn days are the best! Perfect sunshine and fresh air.

The lucky attendees were William Reid, Damian Harkin, Ian Knox and little Ella in the trailer, Robert Waryszak and Jana, Nick and Heather (Sagstrom?), and Rodney Williams. Nick and Heather have just joined OzHPV recently. Nick had a stroke two years ago and the specially set up Greenspeed trike has been a huge help in his recovery. He can still hardly walk, but he can sure ride! Now Heather is raising money to buy trikes to help other people in similar situations.

We started at Jells Park near Ferntree Gully Road around 11am (very civilised) and headed up Dandenong Creek eventually to Boronia. Ian and Ella came part of the way.

Before we reached our designated lunch stop, Nick had a puncture, so we stopped for lunch in a sportsground shelter. There was a group of senior citizens also enjoying the facilities so we had a chance to promote the trikes and even gave some test rides. Then we continued to Boronia. From there we followed the railway towards Ferntree Gully, branching off to follow Blind Creek back down past Knox Village shopping centre and back to our start point. Along the way are quite a lot of gates to keep out trail bikes, so some lifting of the trikes was required. We arrived back at Jells Park about 4:30pm and said our goodbyes. Rodney and Damian engaged granny gear and crept up the hill to Glen Waverley station and caught the train home. Many thanks to Robert Waryszak for organising such a lovely day, and thanks to Rodney for the photos!
