Just a bit about myself for the website. Well I am 51 years young married with two lovely girls. Unfortunately my wife does not share my enthusiasm for recumbents but is at least tolerant for my hobby.
I got back into riding about 4 years ago when one of my fellow workmates brought his bike into work. I took my enthusiasm to a higher level by joining Audax and have done few rides with them, the longest being a near completion of a 300 km ride.
I enjoy riding for the physical and mental tranquility that cycling gives!! I am not a tinkerer but can do basic repairs to get myself going. I got the recumbent bug from the internet and thought that these unusual machines could be the go as I have a back ailment. After a lot of research I went to see Ian humphries from FF (flying furniture) fame and took delivery of one of his PBP Special's in 2004 and have done about 13000kms I went to the Broadford 2005 OzHPV Challenge and took part in various events.
I have upgraded to one of Ian's demo Velokraft bikes and actually took delivery during this year's Broadford 2006 OzHPV Challenge, so it was more of an introduction to a much different recumbent.
I enjoy the new steed and have much pleasure in racing the uprights on the weekend along Beach road!!! The comments that they make as I am now able to stay with the peletons are funny as they think that it has a motor in the back. I would like to become more active in promoting recumbents be they trikes or the two wheel variety as they are unusual, but more so because they give an individual enjoyment in riding. If anyone is out in the Northern suburbs area (I live in Mill Park near the ring road) I am more than willing to get out for a ride.
Regards
Ray
