ROCK ART AT VALCAMONICA, ITALY

Maarten van Hoek Updated February 2006

RESPONSIBLE VISTOR BEHAVIOUR AT ROCK ART SITES
* Never touch rock art - it is highly damaging
* Never chalk or enhance engravings
* Do not walk on engraved rock
* Leave all archaeological artefacts as they are
* Only take photographs, only leave your footsteps

Almost the entire north-south running valley of the Valcamonica in northern Italy is littered with rock art sites (see map: concentrations of rock art sites are marked in orange). Thousands of individual petroglyphs are found on the glaciated outcrops (and some boulders). Therefore these webpages can only offer an impression of what is available.
