RESPONSIBLE VISTOR BEHAVIOUR AT ROCK ART SITES

* Leave all archaeological artefacts as they are
* Only take photographs, only leave your footsteps

Access to Alto de la Guitarra involves a long and very rough walk of about four hours (single way) that is best undertaken with a guide who knows the route as there is no actual path, although parts of the route are marked with very ancient roads and low temple ruins dating to the Cupisnique period. On the way to Alto the la Guitarra and at a much lower level just beyond Los Tres Cerritos there is an isolated petroglyph stone on the eastern edge of the valley floor showing a possible mask, a faint bird-looking shape and some grooves. The panel (second photo) overlooks the entrance to the quebrada of Alto de la Guitarra (first photo) although the photo has been taken from Los Tres Cerritos looking south. The valley floor near Los Tres Cerritos is at about 300 m, while the pass to Alto the da Guitarra is at about 900 m (indicated with the yellow north arrow).
