THE MOAB AREA - UTAH

RESPONSIBLE VISTOR BEHAVIOUR AT ROCK ART SITES
* Never touch or wet rock art - it is highly damaging
* Never chalk or enhance engravings
* Do not walk on engraved rock
* Leave all archaeological artefacts as they are
* Only take photographs, only leave your footsteps

The area around Moab is extremely rich in rock art sites although only a few are easily accessible. The following pages offer a small selection of the more accessible sites in the direct neighborhood of Moab. Easily visible, for instance, is this rock art panel on Potash Road (nr 2 in the last satellite photo), high on a vertical cliff face and overlooking the Colorado River SW of Moab. It features - among other images - a petroglyph of a large bear (?).

THIS PANEL HAS ALREADY BEEN VANDALISED DESPITE ITS LOCATION HIGH UP THE CLIFF - PLEASE RESPECT THIS (AND ANY OTHER) SITE OF THE NATIVE AMERICANS !!
