FINALS DUTIES OF TEAMS, COURT REFEREE, CHAIR UMPIRES & LINE UMPIRES TEAMS: Arrive at your allocated courts by 10am. Wear proper “Tennis Attire.” Fill in 2 Match Sheets on appropriate Home or Away side. In Finals the “HOME TEAM” is the team that finishes on top of the other participating team on the ladder at the end of the season -before the finals. Give both Match Results sheets & 2 new balls to Court Referee BY 10.15AM. The choice of ends and the choice to be server or receiver in the first game is decided by toss before the warm-up starts. The players / team who wins the toss may choose: a. To be server in the 1st game of the match, in which case the opponents choose the end of the court for the 1st game of the match; or b. To be receiver in the 1st game of the match, in which case the opponents choose the end of the court for the 1st game of the match; or c. The end of the court for the 1st game of the match, in which case the opponents choose to be server or receiver for the 1st game of the match; or d. To require the opponents to make one of the above choices. (ie do nothing.) DO NOT DISPUTE ANY CALLS BY UMPIRES. The Chair umpire is in charge of the court, the Court Referee is in charge of each match (ie the 2 courts) & the Match Referee is in charge of all matches. Serve umpires first with lunch. Make sure that the clubroom is left clean & tidy. The Results Sheets are the final responsibility of the WINNING TEAM {to be delivered to the Match Secretary - address on fixture, or faxed (1 - results side only) - number on fixture by 6pm on match day- $5 fine if late. (Grand Final - take both sheets to allocated venue for checking before photos). COURT REFEREES (if listed and can’t umpire - find a replacement - $20 fine per absent ref /umpire – doesn’t have to be a player – just know the rules.) Court Referees and Chair Umpires are to have their current By-Laws Book with them – consult if any disputes, ring Match Referee if necessary. THERE IS NO TAKING (OR THREATENING TO TAKE) BY ANY UMPIRES, OF POINTS/GAMES/SETS/MATCHES FOR ANYTHING! IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM CONTACT THE COURT REFEREE & SHE CAN CONTACT THE MATCH REFEREE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. At 10:15am Court Referee to collect from each playing team captain a filled in Results Sheet with opposing team blank. Court Referee fills in the opposing players - from their Results sheet. Check ALL NETS before play. Call ALL 8 PLAYERS onto the appropriate courts and direct court umpires to positions. Call FULL NAME {Christian and Surname} for ALL 6 SETS. The lst Lady of each team playing stays on the same court for the 3 sets and an extra deciding set if needed (a draw). Give 2 new tennis balls for play to each court. Toss coin for serve choice etc. Give a 5 minute warm up. START PLAY NO LATER THAN 10.30 AM. Give a 5 minute break between sets. If possible, alternate Chair Umpires on each court so that the same person does not umpire three sets on one court. Move umpires to different court if needed. Move umpires to correct positions if needed. Court Referee can be a line or chair umpire if needed. If in chair warn players the set may have to pause if there is a dispute on the other court. DRAWN MATCH - games & sets both equal– the first scheduled set players to play a further set – winning team is the team whose players win the extra set. (equal games & 4 sets to 2 IS NOT A DRAW see rule book p 6 under PREMIERSHIP POINTS) Keep all Results Sheets until the end of the match, writing in scores as sets are finished, making sure playing captains sign both sheets and ask ALL UMPIRES TO PRINT THEIR NAMES THEN SIGN ON BACK OF RESULTS SHEETS - $20 FINE PER ABSENT PERSON! CHAIR & LINE UMPIRES (if listed and can’t umpire - find a replacement - $20 fine if absent – doesn’t have to be a player.) Call all footfaults immediately – no warnings. Chair umpires to call a let: If a ball from another court comes onto your court. If a line umpire is in the way of the players shot. Sign back of Results Sheet. Line umpires: Call or hand gesture all balls in or out. So the chair umpire and players can clearly hear or see decisions.
