Beyond the Pilot Community
The Beyond the Pilot project has enabled dedicated individuals to explore innovation through engaging in stimulating conversation and research into innovation. This forum has been set up to support ongoing relationships between colleagues involved in the project.
Background to the project:
The Victorian Schools Innovation Commission (VSIC), in partnership with the Education Foundation has been generously granted $440,000 by ANZ Trustees to implement a two year state-wide research project titled Beyond the Pilot.
Beyond the Pilot aims to systematically get to the heart of matter: How can we sustain innovation in education? The project is significant at the local, national and international levels, and is being conducted in three phases:
Phase 1: A state-wide survey of all Victorian Government schools
Phase 2: Intensive research at nine sites of innovation and seven “sister” sites
Phase 3: Establishment of a policy panel to translate the research findings into policy recommendations
The Beyond the Pilot project has four major aims:
•to establish the extent of current innovative practice in public education in Victoria
•to identify support and spread innovative practice
•to examine and document what generates and sustains innovative practice in contemporary Victoria
•to develop and plan for the most useful complementary roles for government, philanthropic, corporate and university sectors in initiating and sustaining educational innovation
