Welcome to Snowy River Thinking, the home of the Lower Snowy River Rehabilitation Trial Schools' Program.

Teachers in the Snowy River Schools' cluster, together with the teacher-coordinator of the Lower Snowy River Rehabilitation Trial Schools' Program (LSRRTSP), are putting together a program of events and activities that will provide learning experiences within the context of the Snowy River environment. In particular, students will participate in monitoring the progress of the Lower Snowy River Rehabilitation Trial and the outcomes of their activities and studies will be reported here.

The Lower Snowy River Rehabilitation Trial is intended to improve the health of the river and this includes improving the habitat for fish and other fauna and flora as well as improving the riparian (streamside) vegetation. The instream health can be improved by modifying river flow behaviour to create a more diverse river bed by scouring deep pools in the sandy river bottom. As the river flow is not sufficient to do this by itself, research is underway to design instream structures (large woody debris) that will result in large pools being scoured in the bed. It is anticipated that if this research is successful it will proceed to a limited instream trial to monitor and assess the effectiveness of these instream structures.

The LSRRTSP aims to involve students of the Snowy River cluster in every stage of the research and eventual implementation of the trial, should it proceed.
