A new tool for showing the class macroinvertebrates

This is a great tool for capturing and projecting images onto walls for the whole class to see at a glance.

A nice new micrscope!

Excellent new microscope for viewing microinvertebrates and mounted specimens - connects to the image projector too!

Binonocular microscope to compliment the other equipment

This microscope will allow students to get up close and personal with all sorts of bugs and other materials. It has above and below stage illumination too.
Each Snowy River Thinking activity or event will be recorded here chronologically. Most events will also have their own page documenting the full range of things that happened.

Term 4 2008

This term has seen the climate fluctuate wildly, starting with a very dry spring [almost the driest on record] and ending with exceptional rain that brought an above average spring rainfall total to the region [and a wet start to summer].

Oct 15
Yr5-6 students at Orbost North Primary School reviewed changes at the Bete Belong monitoring site.

October 22
Year 3 students from Swan Reach Primary School visited Snowy River Thinking at Marlo Primary School and had a great time hunting for and identifying freshwater macroinvertebrates.

October 28
P-2 students from St Josephs School visited Snowy River Thinking at Marlo Primary School and had a great time hunting for and identifying freshwater macroinvertebrates.

P-2 students from Orbost North Primary School visited Snowy River Thinking at Marlo Primary School and had a great time hunting for and identifying freshwater macroinvertebrates.

November 4
Orbost North Primary School Yr4-6 students visited the Bete Belong monitoring site and also examined rehabilitation works between Bete Belong and the Highway.

St Josephs School Yr5-6 students visited the Bete Belong monitoring site and also examined rehabilitation works between Bete Belong and the Highway.

November 5
P-2 students from Newmerella Primary School visited Snowy River Thinking at Marlo Primary School and had a great time hunting for and identifying freshwater macroinvertebrates.

Snowy River Thinking joined Marlo Primary School P-3 camp at Cape Conran and had an excellent afternoon with students learning how to use GPS units and hunting 'treasure' around the camp site.

November 12
Yr5-6 Students at St Josephs School tested water collected from the Bete Belong site on their previous trip for conductivity, pH and dissolved Oxygen. They also had fun exploring the relationship between salt and conductivity.

November 18
Newmerella Yr5-6 Primary students visited the Bete Belong monitoring site and also examined rehabilitation works between Bete Belong and the Highway.

November 19
Orbost Yr5-6 Primary students [2 classes] visited the Bete Belong monitoring site and also examined rehabilitation works between Bete Belong and the Highway.

November 25
Orbost Primary School P-2 visited Snowy River Thinking at Marlo Primary School and had a great time hunting for and identifying freshwater macroinvertebrates.

November 26

In addition to these activities, Snowy River Thinking has acquired some excellent new equipment that has really made a difference in introducing students to macroinvertebrates and other aspects of the fluvial micro-habitats. See the pictures:
