Each Snowy River Thinking activity or event will be recorded here chronologically. Most events will also have their own page documenting the full range of things that happened.

Term 1 2008

This year sees the ongoing regular monitoring of the L1 Rehabilitation Site at Bete Belong by Yr5-6 and Year7-8 students but Term 1 is so short these visits will not commence until Term 2. 2008 also sees the end of the ASISTM funded Totally Spatial! program and the final activities in this program will operate this term and next term.

This term will be focussed on preparing for and taking part in the Snowy River Catchment Tour for selected Yr5-6 students.

February 5
All Yr5-6 students in the cluster invited to apply for a seat on the Snowy River Catchment Tour scheduled for March 17-19. Applications closed Feb 22 and winners were announced at the end of the month.

February 12
Marlo PS [Yr P-3] visited the SRT room at Marlo and hunted for minibeasts in water from the Snowy River lagoon. Water mites and flatworms were very common! Other macro invertebrates were in short supply.

February 19
Orbost Primary School [all 4 classes for YrP-2] visited the SRT room at Marlo. Water mites and beetles prevalent this week but a leech was found too.

February 20
St Josephs School [YrP-2] visited the SRT room at Marlo. Water mites and beetles prevalent this week.

February 20
Orbost North Primary School [YrP-2] visited the SRT room at Marlo. Water snails also proved to be there, hiding amongst the weeds.

February 22
Entries for the Catchment Tour trip of a lifetime closed. Over 30 applications for 19 seats on the bus were received!

February 26
Newmerella Primary School [YrP-2] visited the SRT room at Marlo. Lots of water bugs were found and identified.

March 10
19 Catchment Tour winners were announced. All were very excited.

March 17
Day 1 of the Catchment Tour
We visited:
Goongerah Primary School
Tubbut Primary School
McKillops Bridge
and finally arrived in Cooma in the evening

March 18
Day 2 of the Catchment Tour
We visited:
Cooma Shopping Centre
Snowy Hydro Education Centre
The Jindabyne Dam wall for a special tour of the new pipe, generator, splash pool and flood gates.
The Mowamba Weir
The Snowy River at Dalgety
and finally returned to Jindabyne for the evening

March 19
Day 3 of the Cacthment Tour
We visited:
The lookout at Jacobs Ladder
The Snowy River at Pinch River
The Suggan Buggan River at Suggan Buggan
The Buchan River at Buchan
and finally returned to Orbost in the late afternoon.

A great trip was had by all but were very tired when we got back!

All students completed activities that earned them fish stickers. The student with the most fish stickers was awarded the wonderful Snowy Hydro Story book given to us by the Snowy Hydro Education Centre.
