This is an issue, which brings the challenge of stewardship into stark silhouette. The challenge is to find a sustainable way of managing our human needs for timber whilst respecting and protecting the intricate biodiversity of native old growth forests. By safeguarding these forests we are also preserving the wilderness areas necessary, even if only as a vicarious experience, for our sense of intimate connection to the Earth. This freely given gift is a soul soothing celebration of life.
Focusing on positive solution oriented action, this group draws on local and worldwide experience to examine, learn about, share and promote solutions for Sustainable Forests in natural and plantation Victorian forests.
Notwithstanding the complexities, whether scientific, economic, sociological or environmental, - technologies, timber alternatives and solutions exist now that reduce waste, safeguard old growth forests, protect biodiversity value adding to enable sustainable timber millers to achieve economic viability.
