| Along with Peppertree Place (Kildonan Coburg Kitchen Garden) and the Moreland Interfaith Gathering, women from the sewing group are planning six events over twelve months, beginning on September 3rd 2011 with a celebration of the Muslim festival of Eid, which marks the end of the month of fasting, Ramadan.
Celebrate the diversity within our local community by sharing good food, fun activities and stories of how different people live life and practice their faith. For Eid ul-Fitr we learned how to make spinach pies with fresh greens from the garden and watched them being cooked in the woodfired oven, ate healthy, vegetarian creations hot from the community kitchen and sweet desserts from around the world. We sewed finger puppets, stars and moons. On December 3rd 2011 from 10 am to 12 midday we will make a story mural about our different festivals and the many diverse ways we mark them, try some delicious special foods, and make garden candle holders to take home. PepperTree Place is a community garden at 512 Sydney Rd Coburg, at Bell St corner. They have a garden edibles swap on the first Saturday of each month, and our events will be on those days. Download the current flyer at the link below. If you would like to help with this or future events, please contact Michaela on 0423 226 303, michdedek@yahoo.com.au or talk to us at sewing group. We are thankful for a grant from the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship to support this project |
