Eliza Forlong Cottage & Longwood Bank
In the grounds of the museum is this 4 room cottage with various items also on the left you can just see the old Longwood bank, built c1890.
Extensive research is ongoing into the Forlong and Tempelton family. An amazing about has been collected since 2007. A lot of information on the Net about the Forlongs and Templetons is not quite correct. One fact is that John, Eliza and Andrew Forlong did not carry the e on their surname, only William and his children and their children did.

Mary's chair
Until I put her rocking chair into the dining room along with her photo and other items belonging to her family, I was forever pushing the chairs back under the table. You see.....Mary died in the next room in 1937. There is a brief story below...

| NEW HOURS - new hours - NEW HOURS - new hours
Wednesday 1pm to 4pm some Fridays 1pm to 4pm Weekends by appointment - please give 48 hours notice. ...EUROA FARMERS ARMS HOTEL MUSEUM in THE SHIRE OF STRATHBOGIE, VICTORIA AUSTRALIA... The building in which our museum is housed was formerly the FARMERS' ARMS HOTEL, first licensed in 1876 by John Shelswell. Previous to this it is believed to have been a butcher shop, ran and owned by the Weir family. It was used as a hotel with various licensees until the end of 1917. In 1916 Edith McCormack married Arthur Smith the local police constable. Arthur died in 1921 the year his 3rd child was to be born. Soon after this, Edith purchased the building and ran it as a boarding house for the next 50 years. After Edith passed away, the then Shire of Euroa bought the building and the Historical Society is very grateful to have this wonderful old building to call home. Frank, the last born of Arthur & Edith has donated some very special items back to the museum, these include several wedding presents of his parents and a rocking chair which belonged to his beloved Grandmother, Mary McCormack. Mary owned the historic Seven Creeks Hotel c1900-1904. After the death of Arthur, Mary moved in with Edith to help her and her young family. With only a very small handful of VOLUNTEERS available to open the museum, the hours are now ..... Wednesdays 1.00 pm - 4.00 pm some Fridays 1.00 pm - 4.00 pm Weekends by appointment - please give 48 hours notice. Please ring or email if you are making a special trip though, as sometimes, especially over winter, what volunteers we do have migrate north! Barb phone 57952732. ENTRY is $4.00 for adults & $1.00 for children, 5 to 16. We have a large range of mostly local items to view - household, clothing, machinery, just to name a few...and don't forget our Ned Kelly Corner. We also may be able to help you with your FAMILY HISTORY queries and PHOTOS of your relative. We undertake RESEARCH on your behalf, the fee being $20 per hour plus any copying & postage charges, emailed is free. We charge a $10 LOOKUP fee before any page is turned or button pushed. This will be deducted OFF your hourly rate if you decide to go ahead. Photos are only available emailed or on CD - One photo is $10, CD and postage is $3 extra, subsequent photos - $10.00 each. We are ALL volunteers at the museum, but we still need money to operate successfully, it just doesn't fall off the tree. We have a gas bill and an electricity bill for example. In 100 years time, people will be looking for exactly the same things you are looking for - we need to buy specialty items so they can be preserved for the future. Grants do not fall out of the trees either. Due to the large number of people who want everything for nothing via email, the worst being I do not even get a thank you which often is all that it takes for me to be happy we have decided to charge the $10 lookup fee - my time is just as valuable as yours, if you don't want to pay, please don't bother asking, instead ask yourself, do you volunteer your time anywhere. You will never know what history you're missing out on. ALL INQUIRIES must NOW be sent by snail mail and INCLUDE $10 as the look up fee, you will be notified the result by email.
