As the name suggests, this Residents Group and its name has been formulated to incorporate the three main issues that have been established by our group.
R.A.M.P. has been established for all people with disabilities who live in the Hobsons Bay Municipality, their families, friends, carers or any interested individuals who would like to be involved in making positive changes to peoples lives.
We make mo distinction regarding the type of disability or age of participants as disability affects all ages and stages of peoples lives.
R.A.M.P. has a self advocacy approach to encourage individuals in a safe, productive environment to problem solve, negotiate, educate and empower themselves and the wider community to gain a greater understanding of issues that affect people on a day to day basis.
This approach can be seen as being mutually beneficial to all concerned as issues can be addressed preferably in the early stages rather than later. Issues and difficulties that face people with disablities also affect non-disabled family members, friends, carers etc within the community and can limit their exposure to what 'community' is really about.
By raising issues of concern we hope to break down the isolation experienced by our community and can enhance their quality of life by improving their access, participation and mobility within the Hobsons Bay Community. |
