| The Portarlington Community Association Inc. has a membership of 40+ community minded people who meet monthly throughout the year. The purpose of the PCA is threefold:
- to serve and benefit the community of Portarlington and, when appropriate, to be involved with more general issues that affect Portarlington and surrounding areas. - to promote and develop facilities and services for residents, visitors and tourists. - to operate as an on-going community forum. The PCA meets on the first Wednesday of the month (except January) at 7.00pm. at the Community Health Centre meeting room, with the AGM held in August. The PCA is aware that today’s communities are diverse and some members may not be able to attend evening/weekday meetings so other options are currently being investigated to address this issue. There is a membership fee of $20 to cover public liability insurance and administration costs, and this also entitles you to vote on motions at meetings. New members are always welcome so why not come along to our meetings and make a difference. By pursuing issues and concerns of our community we can ensure that the town is progressive in it’s thinking and remains a caring environment for our residents and visitors alike. Over the years the PCA has worked closely with local Members of Parliament (State and Federal when required) as well as Local Government Councilors. The process of raising issues and bringing about change often requires great dedication and perseverance before results are seen or achieved however, in the long-term it is very rewarding for members when they realize their goal and how much it benefits their community. The monthly newsletter, “The Port Report” was first published in December 1991 and by March 2001 its management was handed over to a separate Port Report Committee. It continues to provide news, information and advertising relating to the town and its many community groups. The Constitution, Minutes and Annual Reports are available for all in the community to read. For copies please contact the secretary at secretary@portarlington.asn.au |
