We have no record of Maudie - could you please verify the following
information which I have extracted from various sources.
You listed Rosie as live issue on the Death Form. I believe she is
Rosie Manangali Nabannga who died on 19. 3.1958 at Banka Banka.
There is some confusion as to whether Jack Rainmaker Mundai was
consort of Rosie or Maudie.
Also, if you can find out any more of Maudie's particulars, please
forward them.

Re - Death of Maria Christopher
Maria died on 7. 2.1967 of acute haemoirhagic exacerbation
of subacute nephritis, followed by encephalopathy. It is
not known whether she died in Darwin or on the way up as
she was dying when she was sent up by plane. She was buried
in the Tennant Creek Cemetery.

Thank you for the additional information concerning Daisy, who
has now been identified. However, you have stated that Tommy
(Jabalya) of Alroy Downs claims to be Daisy's only child when
inquiring about her pension cheques.
There does not appear to be anything to substantiate his
statement, as his parents have been marked deceased on his
original record, and his date of birth was then given as
1895, later brought forward to 1905 on station information.
Daisy was given date of birth as 1900.
Should Tommy be able to provide any further details to establish
his relationship to Daisy, would you advise please.

An information form - death has been prepared by the Tennant Creek
Hospital for Maggie and it has been passed onto this section for
checking. As with most forms from Tennant Creek Hospital there is
very little detail.
However, we believe the deceased is Maggie Alangunji, first consort
Duncan Jugaridi, children: Alec Ngijirigbi (1943), Eric Mangabi (1947),
Jacky Wadraji (1949), and Hilda (DOB unknown). Apparently, Chuckler
Anderson was second consort.
Our present query is Hilda, who was stated to be Maggie's child on
original census material prior to compilation of the Register of
Wards, but we do not have any personal record of her. A notation
states Hilda lived in Darwin but we cannot identify her.
Would you please make inquiries in an endeavour to establish Hilda's
whereabouts, if presumed still alive. As Maggie's usual place of
residence given on the death form is Tennant Creek Village, there
may be someone there who has information on Hilda to assist us.
Also, could you advise whether Chuckler Anderson is Chuckler Wiriwiri
(Jangala / Warramunga), DOB 1919, previous consort Norah Munmunala
(deceased 7.10.1966); children Alice Bringali (9.10.1945),

Mr Frederick Skinner of 11 Through Street, South Grafton, an Aboriginal
person, indicated to me that his wife, Violet May Skinner, died at Tennant
Creek some 9 days ago. Her body is currently at Tennant Creek Hospital.
Mr Skinner is 65 years of age and in receipt of an age pension. he
has no assets nor bank account and has been quoted the sum of $800.00 to
have his wife buried in Grafton. He is of course unable to find this amount
of money. Would you be good enough to advise me what means are available
locally for the burial of his wife. A daughter, Mrs Gloria Webb of 2 Ellen
Street, South Grafton, will possibly be attending the funeral.
Mr Skinner is unable to attend because of the distance and his health
and it would appear to me that the deceased will have to be buried at Tennant
Creek. Should this not be your responsibility would you kindly refer it to
the appropriate authority.

handed to us by the Police.
This office would be unable to assist Mr Skinner in having
his wife buried in Grafton, but the usual cost of a burial
in Tennant Creek would be approximately $78.00, however this
can also be waived if the relatives, as in Mr Skinner's case
can not afford to take responsibility to pay.
If Mrs Gloria Webb does attend the funeral, as the deceased's\
daughter, she may be asked to accept responsibility, if this
is the case and she could not afford to do so, she should
refuse to sign any documents that would make her liable.
I believe there is a delay of approximately 4 weeks regarding

and, unfortunately, several queries remain unanswered.
It would be helpful to ascertain whether the Davey
stated to be the father of Johnny's wives Christine and May, is
the same person as Davey Guladgunu (Jagamara / Warramunga) who
died in Tennant Creek, 28. 2.1961. His wife was Winnie
Manangali (1933), now at Banka Banka as wife of Dayday Frank.
On winnie's record is son, Wally Nguluruma (1. 3.1945) and a Dick
(no DOB). Similar notations are on the deceased Davey.
You have given a Dick and Wally as brothers to May and
Christine. If Shorty Dick is the Dick above, he would
not be the son of Winnie as his DOB is 1929, but perhaps
Davey (1897) was his father. However, Christine and May
cannot be traced to date and do not appear on any census
material of Banka or Helen Springs.
You have given the name of Jean (consorts Roderick
-deceased, and Lauder) as the daughter of Christine. This
person is Jean Frank, daughter of Linda Judabamunya (1915)
and Frank (deceased 1955). This is confirmed by Social Service
records also. Therefore, is there another Jean or has
Christine been quoted as her mother in error.
Mavis has been identified following provision of the
additional information from you, but there is no record of
the child, Phyllis, or any children at all. Has Phyllis
been known by any other name, and has Mavis had any other
consort. It has been noted that you gave her Aboriginal
name as Mirigilgarim which was the name of Roderick, Jean's
first consort.
May, Johnny's third wife, remains unidentified.
The only other person appearing on census and Apr records
for the area, is May with child Lucy (28. 4.1972), who was the
subject of a previous query to your office. It is possible
May had another consort before the deceased Johnny, but
without further investigation we are unable to identify all
persons linked with Johnny.
In addition to death registration, we have had
referred to us a claim for Widow's pension on behalf of
Christine, and we request your early attention to the above.

lived behind Banka Banka Homestead, over the hill, and as

be verified by APR records. Minnie's record does mention an

6. 6.1974 From Warrabri Township to Aboriginal Affairs Alice Springs
Report on Death of Charlie Rex.
At approximately 1000 hours Mr Steve Kovacs of Wycliffe Well,
arrived at Warrabri with Charlie Rex. He was directed to
take him to the Hospital where Rex died at 1020 hours, 3rd May.
It is believed that Rex in the company of several others,
namely:- Angus Williams, Victor Williams, John Charlie,
Donald McDonald, Mick Nelson, Colin Shannon and Ti-tree Paddy
camped in the vicinity of Wycliffe Well from the evening of
31st May until the morning of the 3rd June.
On the Saturday 1st June, after consuming liquor, a fight
broke out between the deceased, Victor Williams, Angus Williams
and John Charlie; the others present did not intervene.
On the Sunday Rex complained of pains, but no notice was taken
and it is possible another fight took place.
On Monday 3rd May Mr Kovacs was informed of Rex's condition,
and he brought him over to Warrabri.
The Village Council tried to assist Police in apprehending
Angus Williams, Victor Williams and John Charlie for the
purpose of questioning. Mr Toby White, who on tribal matters
should deal with the deceased antagonists, said that he would
leave the matter in the hands of the Police.
On Tuesday 4th June it was reported that a post mortem had
revealed that Rex had died of pneumonia. When the Council
was informed of this, they appeared sceptical as there was
talk of a 'poisoned boomerang' being used.
The people concerned asked if Rex's hair could be returned for
rites. They also requested that the body be returned to
Warrabri for a Christian burial as soon as possible.

Re Family of Jim Mosley deceased
Reference is made to your telephone call on 8th August 1974
and the subsequent call from this office in respect
of the person known to you as Jim Mosley.
To confirm information already supplied the Mosleys at
Kalateena advise that the only person they thought it could
possibly be was a person known to them as Clarefield Percival
Mosley, aged about 43 or 44 years. This person was a very large
man, a very light half-caste in complexion with grey eyes. The
emphasis was very much laid on the fact that he had grey eyes.
When last within this area Clarefield Percival Mosley was
with Bullen Bros Circus, this was sometime before 1965. They
have not heard from him or of him since he left the area in 1964
and was going to New Zealand with the Circus.
The Bell Boxing Troupe was known to the Mosleys and there-
for it is quite possible that Clarefield Percival could have
joined that troupe on one of the northern itineraries.
Further enquiries were made and a Mrs Marnie? Mason
supplied the information that Clarefield Percival Mosley was
the adopted son of the late Percival Mosley.
His natural mother was Mabel Dungay who had him at
Port Macquarie. Subsequently I have verified registration of
birth with the C.P.S. Port Macquarie and on 23. 3.1931 Mabel Dungay
gave birth to a male infant registered at C.P.S. Port Macquarie
as Clarefield Dungay. This registration is No 171/31 at Port Macquarie.
The man's nick-name was 'Terpy' in this area.
It is said that he attended the Burnt Bridge Public School
for his schooling, however no wife is known and as far as it is
known in this area, there is no issue belonging to him.
The person known as Mabel Dungay was later married and was
Mrs Pat Calligan. She has since separated from Patrick Calligan.
A request for a recent address for this woman was made and I have
since been given her address as 91 Buckingham Street, Alexandria.
This could be Great Buckingham Street, Alexandria NSW. As
Mrs Pat Calligan is quite likely known by some other name in that
area, perhaps further enquiries could be made of her, if it is
your desire to contact her, through Aboriginal Medical Service,
per Mrs Shirley Smith, Redfern Sydney.
