10. 9.1946 The following white male patients were admitted to the
Peel Island Lazaret on 19. 7.1946

2. 8.1946 Letter from Premier Queensland to the Prime Minister Canberra
'I desire to inform you that in May, 1942, when it became
necessary for the Commonwealth authorities to evacuate leper
patients, John William Anderson, Elpert Reddington Cobb and
Mrs Lucy Delacruz, from Katherine in the Northern Territory,
arrangements were made for their accomodation in Leprosaria
in Queensland. At present Messrs Anderson and Cobb are at the
Peel Island Lazaret, and Mrs Delacruz is at the Fantome Island
Leprosarium.'
23. 4.1946 A white female patient at the Peel Island lazaret died at that
Institution on the 21st instant (21. 4.1946), at the age of
79 years.
8. 4.1946 I have to advise that a white female - Julia Gay (?Gray) - of
Emu Park, Central Queensland, was admitted to the Peel Island
Lazaret on friday last (5. 4.1946).
4. 4.1946 Mrs John Gray of Emu Park, Rockhampton is suffering from leprosy.
29.11.1945 Mr A Coleman, an inmate of Peel Island Lazaret, died at that
Institution on 27.11.1945.
9.11.1945 Histories of five Javanese detained at Peel Island Lazaret.
One is Djamil who is due for release next month. The remaining
are still showing positive smears.
Djamil - aet 41-42 years, native of Java, married, arrived in
Australia 1941, seaman. Admitted to Peel Island 20. 3.1944.
Primarily neural. Due for discharge on parole 11.12.1945
Campang - aet 30-31 years, native of Java, single, seaman,
arrived in Australia 1941 per KPM 'Stevorgoon'. Admitted to
Peel Island 1. 6.1944. Mixed case. Remains bacteriologically
positive.
Lesnusa (Lesnoessa), Johannes - aet 25-26, native of Amboena,
single, Police-boy. Date of arrival not recorded. Admitted to
Peel Island September 1944. Mixed case. Occasionally
bacteriologically positive.
Nindatu, Augustinus - aet 34-35 years, native of Amboena, married,
hospital assistant in Dutch Army, arrived in Australia 1943.
Admitted to Peel Island 27. 6.1944. Mixed case. Remains
bacteriologically positive.
Sogeman - aet 27-28 years, native of Sourebaya, single, seaman,
date of arrival not recorded. Admitted to Peel Island 18. 8.1943.
Mixed case. Remains bacteriologically positive.
25.10.1945 Letter from Commonwealth of Australia Department of Health
'On the 18th October 1945, advice was received from the Secretary,
Department of Public Health, Queensland, that Ali Akbar, seaman,
age 28 years, a native of Calcutta, ex s.s. 'Van de Bosch', had
been admitted to Wattlebrae Hospital as a suspect leper. Wasserman
reaction and routine smears for M. Leprae were negative, the
diagnosis was ? Early Neural Leprosy.
Further advice has now been received that he was discharged from
the Brisbane Hospital as non-infectious, to rejoin his ship which
has now left Brisbane.'
8. 8.1945 About proposed transfer of three lepers - Messrs Anderson and
Cobb of Peel Osland and Miss Delacruz of Fantome Island.
5. 6.1945 Mrs Harriett Long, inmate of Peel Island, died at that
Institution on Saturday 2. 6.1945.
24. 5.1945 Mr Giovanni Caltabiano, who was admitted to Peel Island Lazaret
suffering from Leprosy on the 23. 8.1940, died on friday
18. 5.1945.
28. 3.1945 Charles Schuler died at Peel Island Lazaret on 22. 3.1945.
22. 2.1945 From Department of Health Queensland to Director of Health Canberra
I have communicated with Dr Power, Medical Superintendent,
Palm Island, on the question of half-caste Lucy Delacruz
mentioned in previous correspondence.
He advises her general health is good and she is quite fit
for transport. He has obtained in an off-hand manner from
her that she would prefer to return to Channel Island
where she would be among her own people.
3. 2.1945 Mentions Mr J W Anderson and Mr M Cobb, ex Channel Island,
Northern Territory and now inmates at Peel Island would be
fit to be transported back to Darwin if arrangements
for transfer can be made.
30. 1.1945 Mentions Mr Anderson and Mr Cobb are fit to return to
Darwin. Also mentions Mr Cole, a white man, absconded
and is believed to be at the Little Bay Leprosarium
in New South Wales.
17. 1.1945 Letter from J W Anderson requesting transfer from Peel
Island back to Channel Island Lazaret where he originally
came from. Has been at Peel Island for two years and
eight months.
30.12.1944 Mentions A W Merry of Peel Island who went to Canberra
with complaints and now wants to transfer to the Little
Bay Lazaret.
28.12.1944 Refers to A W Merry. Also refers to E H Cole who was
in and out of Little Bay as and when he liked.
19. 9.1944 Sam Morris (abo) aged 46 years was admitted to the
Fantome Island Lazaret on 14. 9.1944.
18. 9.1944 From R W Naggs of Woorabinda Aboriginal Settlement Queensland.
His wife is on Peel Island suffering from leprosy. Wants
to know if it is possible for him to bring her from Peel
Island to Sydney for treatment.

14. 9.1944 Mr Leonard Breen (white) of Brisbane was admitted to the
Peel Island Lazaret on 8. 9.1944. He had previously
been a patient in the Institution and was released
on parole on 18.12.1933.
18. 8.1944 Refers to Fung Kier Lim, Chinese leper.
He landed from the SS Agues in February 1943.
21. 7.1944 Refers to Fung Kier Lim who originally came from the
Northern Territory.
30. 6.1944 I have to advise a coloured Australian serviceman
Pte Atal was admitted to Fantome Island on 28. 6.1944
suffering from Leprosy.
15. 6.1944 Michael Bennett (white) and inmate of Peel Island
Lazaret died on 9. 6.1944.
7. 6.1944 The following have been admitted to Peel Island Lazaret
suffering from Leprosy

24. 5.1944 Henry James Irwin aged 32 years was admitted to Peel
Island Lazaret on 19. 5.1944
4. 5.1944 Otto Hardke aged 71 years, a native of Germany but
many years in Queensland, died at the Lazaret,
Peel Island, on 28. 4.1944.
12. 1.1944 Fung Kier Lim (Chinese) aged 32 years was admitted to
Peel Island Lazaret via Brisbane today.
21.12.1943 William Edward Phillips a leper patient at the Peel Island
Lazaret via Brisbane who was admitted to that Institution
on 10. 4.1940, died there today at the age of 76 years.
He was a native of Colac, West Victoria, and unmarried.
30.11.1943 Mrs Angele Rees (white woman) aged 78 years was admitted to
Peel Island Lazaret on 26.11.1943.
18.11.1942 Frances Thompson (aged 14 years) died at Fantome Island
Leprosarium on 31.10.1942.
14.10.1942 Rene Sailor, coloured female, aged 24 years, died at
Fantome Island Leprosarium on 30. 9.1942.
7.10.1942 Michael Christopher Brazil (white male aged 38 years),
inmate of Peel Island Lazaret, died 5.10.1942.
26. 8.1942 Michael Boyce has been found to be no longer suffering from
leprosy and was released from Peel Island Lazaret on
25. 8.1942 on parole.
26. 8.1942 Clarence Edwin Budgen has been found to be no longer suffering
from leprosy and was released from Peel Island Lazaret on
27. 7.1942 on parole.
26. 5.1942 Edgar Murray, coloured, aged 50 years, died 30. 4.1942
at Fantome Island Lazaret
Eric Brown, coloured, aged 42 years, died 18. 5.1942

21. 1.1942 Mr Hugh Craney, white inmate, of Peel Island Lazaret

27. 6.1940 Alfred Thomas Dodson is again suffering from leprosy and has
been readmitted to the Peel Island Lazaret on 19. 6.1940
11. 4.1940 William Edward Phillips, aged 73 years, residing at Wondai,
was admitted to the Peel Island Lazaret on 10. 4.1940
18. 3.1940 Aboriginal leper patient Minnie Sugarbag died 5. 2.1940 at
the Fantome Island Leprosarium.
18. 3.1940 Alfred Thomas Dodson was discharged from the Peel Island
Lazaret on 18. 3.1940 under surveillance.
28. 2.1940 Roy Hobson, aboriginal, died at Fantome Island Leprosarium
