Constitution
of the Network of Italian Mayors and Councillors
(NIMAC-VIC)
1.
NAME
The
name of the organization shall be:
Network
of Italian Mayors and Councillors (NIMAC-VIC)
The
Network shall not function as a corporate body but as a forum to promote
or facilitate networking amongst Victorian Councillors.
2.
AIMS
The object of the Network shall be to promote the
sharing of ideas Among the member Councillors, with overall object of
promoting the profile of the Italo-Australian community in Australia
and developing links with Italy.
3.
FUNCTIONS
The function of NIMAC shall include the following:

To
establish a forum for the exchange of views, information and materials
on Local Government matters.
·
To
identify areas for co-operation on joint projects in Victoria, and
between Victoria and Italy.
·
To
encourage through appropriate channels the establishment of links
between Victorian and Italian organizations.
·
To
organize an annual conference on a rotation basis among interested
councils.
·
To
develop and maintain a database of persons and organizations who are
interested in and/or working towards promoting the Italian community
in Victoria.
·
To
assist in promoting multiculturalism in our society.
·
To
improve business, cultural and social opportunities in the respective
Councils and in Victoria as a whole.
·
To
promote the Italian contribution to Australian Society.
·
To
initiate, seek funding and develop special projects.
·
To
establish a web page.
·
To
maintain regular communication links with
-the
Consul General
-the
Institute of culture
-other
appropriate institutions as identified
·
To
engage in such activities as may from time to time be determined by
NIMAC and are in accordance with the object of NIMAC
4.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership
of the Network is open to all elected Municipal Councillors and the past
members of NIMAC.
5.
MEMERSHIP DUES
Membership
fees will be set by NIMAC at appropriately convened AGM’s.
6.
OFFICE BEARERS
6.1
There will be an executive of three:
President
Secretary
Liaison
Co-Coordinator
6.2
All three positions to be filled by current elected Councillors.
6.3
Preferably, a current Mayor should fill the Co-Coordinator /
president positions.
6.4
The role of the Executive it to facilitate arrangements and
communication and distributing information
6.5
All member Councillors to have one vote, although generally
decision to be made on a consensus basis.
6.6
The process and rights of each Municipality to be respected.
6.7
All member Councillors will assist with the circulation of
appropriate documents/correspondence.
7.
RECOGNITION OF SERVICES
The
Annual Conference may award a Certificate of merit in recognition of
services to the Italian community.
8.
BANK ACCOUNT
The network will open appropriate bank accounts.
9.
COUNCIL YEAR
The year of NIMAC will be 31 March to 1 April.
10.
DISSOLUTION
Any member NIMAC can withdraw from the Network at any time.
11.
QUORUM
It is desirable that all members be present when decisions are
made.
12. AMENDMENTS
The
Constitution may be amended at the conference or telephone or video
conferencing by simple majority provided two weeks notice is given.
