| What is... Orthomolecular Medicine?
This term was first coined by Nobel winner Linus Pauling Ph.D.,in 1968, and refers to the practice of preventing and curing disease with nutritional therapy. While most conventional doctors hold to the idea that a balanced diet will provide all the nutrients a person needs, the truth is that not many people maintain a diet that is nutritionally sufficient to prevent or fight disease. Orthomolecular medicine practitioners make nutritional recommendations based on a number of factors, including: medical history and examination, urine analysis, blood tests, and other specialized tests designed to detect nutrient levels in the cells.
