Up to this time we have 14 Venturers but will be unfortunately losing a few in the next few months because they will be turning 18.

Hopefully we will not lose them though, because the big news in that we now have an active Rover Crew. Ashanti rovers have decided to join our group and will be meeting here as from next term. They will be adopting the name of Ashanti/Kyeema Rover Crew.

Kyeema is the name of the old Devon Meadows Rover Crew, but due to the fact that Ashanti is the more well known Rover Crew it was decided to use both names to signify both crews working together. Simon Toogood one of our ex Venturers is a member or Ashanti so is rapt to be coming back to his old den. Since last year we have lost Nathan who will go on to our Rover crew. Nathan was one of our original members from back in 2002 and is now working fulltime after completing his VCE before starting University next year.

Todd has decided to leave to concentrate on his VCE. We wish him all the best in his studies and for the future and will miss him at any dress up activity as Todd knew how to dress up.

Last but certainly not the least is Joe. Joe has gone to a University in Tasmania and has joined a Rover crew over there. Joe promises us that when he can he will return to us and is even staying registered with us. Joe will be a big loss to our unit as he was one of the originals when the unit was reactivated in 2002 and one of the loudest.

We wish Joe all the best and hope to see him back soon.

We will be saying good-bye to Sam and Paul in May. Hopefully they will go on to our Rover crew so we won’t really be saying goodbye and will probably see them often.

Next term we will be hopefully welcoming a couple of members from our Scout troop and another couple from Cranbourne Scout troop.

Now for what we have been up to, well where do I start. We had a bigger and better night which luckily for us was when the hard rubbish collection was on. We scored a huge amount of goodies for the den, including a singing fish, unfortunately he gets stuck when he gets to a certain spot in his song.

We also held a district trivia night which we are proud to say we won. Hooray.

We had a bogon night at McDonalds Berwick and I must say that flannelette shirts got a good work out, as well as the old favourite tracky pants. It was a fun night and was topped off by trying to get Damo’s hat off of the sign out the front of McDonalds with a broom, kindly supplied by McDonalds. This was a good 20 minutes worth of entertainment.

We held a P night which everybody had to dress as something beginning with P and bring a plate with P food on it. We had pancakes and popcorn and Dave made a lovely pimp and Min a princess. Matt came dressed in his pyjamas and Paul came as Paul.

In November we went on a Venturing skills hike for Daniel, Aaron, Alanna and Sam down to the Prom. Joe and Rowdy came for the support. It was a great weekend and we are really proud of how well our members went. We were really rapt with how well Alanna went as she had never hiked with a pack before, but never gave in. Daniel and Aaron were former Devon Meadows Scouts and as expected did well. Apart from the tiger snake hanging around our campsites all went well.

We attended a district bowling night held at Cranbourne and had a good time with the other units.

For Nathan’s last night we went to the Moorabbin wave pool. This was great fun and was topped off by a visit to our second home McDonalds.

This year we have been meeting a lot with Kalora Park Venturer Unit as we have found that the more the merrier.

We went swimming with them at Seaford beach and would like to thank Damo for his fashion statement in wearing his speedos.

We invited Kalora Park to our den for a visit from the Dandenong Ambulance service. This was a great night with some of the unit using it for badgework.

We went rock climbing at Nunawading with Kalora Park and found that we have a few monkeys amongst us. Rowdy was up the walls like a rat up a drain pipe as was Aaron. Lucky that Joey came along to mind all the wallets and mobile phones.

We went swimming at Casey Arc with Kalora Park and were disappointed to find that the wave pool finishes at 6:00. We still managed to have a good time though.

We would like to give a big thank you to Rowdy for doing our program this term. Rowdy has done an excellent job with a very difficult task. We would also like to thank our parents for all of their support and help with transport.

We would also like to congratulate and encourage Damien who is madly organizing and completing his Queen Scout at the moment. Keep going Damo, we are with you.
