Mute Children Victoria
There are many different reasons for mutism, but regardless of whether it is due to a physical abnormality, a language disability such as dyspraxia or selective, the end result is still the same, the child is unable to communicate orally.
As parents of mute children, we have a long, hard road ahead of us in our search for equality and inclusion. Too little is being done for mute children. However, the wheel does not need to be reinvented in regards to programs, staff qualifications and resources. Mute children need access to sign language and oral speech in an educational setting and this is already being provided beautifully, for the deaf.
By forming a united front, we have a better chance of raising an awareness, being heard, and action being taken.
Please use this site as a forum to air your grievances and concerns, to ask for support/assistance and most importantly, to share your stories (yes all the trials and tribulations) so that you do not continue to feel alone!
