27/8/09 NEW LISTINGS to the WILDLIFE SCHEDULES From October 1 2009, 8 Mammal species are able to be kept on Private Wildlife (Advanced) Licence. Black-striped Wallaby - Macropus dorsalis Feathertail Glider - Acrobates pygmaeus Long-nosed Potoroo - Potorous tridactylus Plains Rat - Pseudomys australis Quokka - Setonix brachyurus Southern Brown Bandicoot - Isoodon obesulus Spinifex Hopping-mouse - Notomys alexis Squirrel Glider - Petaurus norfolcensis Congratulations to MSoV WPTAC Rep - Glen for all his hard work. Also thankyou to the enitre MSoV Committee who all contributed to and wrote the successful submissions. 2008 - 12 Submissions have been presented to DSE's Wildlife Possession Trade Advisory Committee - WPTAC. Each submission is species specific with the aim to have species added to the current Wildlife Licensing Schedules. The MSoV representive on the WPTAC Committee will now see these submissions through the WPTAC process. Draft 1 of a Code of Practice for the Private Keeping of Australian Mammals, has been published. The Code applies to mammals kept under Private Wildlife (Basic) and Private Wildlife (Advanced) Licences (not zoos or wildlife parks), as well as to dingoes kept under permit. The MSoV are involved in the draft process with the Depart of Primary Industries - DPI. We are in the process of making comment to DPI regarding the draft. |
