Writing Our Lives

The Neverending Story Writers meet weekly at the Diamond Creek Living & Learning Centre in Victoria, Australia. The lure that snared us originally was a short course, 'Writing Your Life Story'. It soon became apparent that the stories of our lives were going to take much longer than five weeks to unravel: we have never really considered a final class. The things that bind us together are a curiosity about the mysteries and meaning of life, a love of language, a deep appreciation of other writers' skills, a joy in friendship, a sharing of wisdom, and for a perverse few, an interest in risk-taking. We like to talk, laugh, think, read, and we LOVE to eat... and write, of course.

The composition of the group has changed over the years. Some members are eligible for Long Service Leave, having helped establish the group in 1995. Since then, individuals have left (some permanently, others temporarily) and newcomers welcomed. No matter the comings and goings, each person has generously brought something unique, whether related to personality, character, skill, knowledge or perspective. We have been enriched by each presence. Currently there are 14 regular members, plus one delighted tutor.

We will not all be involved in this mc2 community, Writing Our Lives. Some of us find technology unappealing. Others are a little intimidated. But there should be enough bright minds to engage in dialogue, and we look forward to sharing stories and ideas.
