The Mt Beauty & District CWA Branch is part of the largest women's organisation in Australia!

With over 25,000 members in 1500 branches, the CWA aims to improve conditions for women and children living in remote and rural Australia, especially in the areas of health, welfare and education. It is based on friendship, self-development and service, and members come from all walks of life and are women of all ages.

Individual branches help organise and support schemes for the benefit of their members and community, promote friendship, and offer self-development for all women of all races, religions and political beliefs.

The Tawonga Branch was formed on February 7, 1946 with Clare Roper as the first Branch President. There was a membership of 45 ladies, and meetings were first held in the Old Tawonga Hall down by the car racing track, then in a room at the Timber Mill in Tawonga, and finally in a two room building beside the new Tawonga Hall. After 60 years, the Tawonga branch closed in 2006. At its peak, it was very active in the community, raising funds for the CFA and Red Cross, and members won countless awards and trophies for craft, public speaking and performing arts.
There were also branches in Mt Beauty, Bogong Village and Dederang, and when their memberships dwindled, those ladies still keen to enjoy all the CWA had to offer, joined the Tawonga branch.

On Wednesday 18 February, 2009, the Mt Beauty & District CWA branch was formed.

Our main headquarters is the Mt Beauty Guide Hall in Maddison Street and meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month, alternating between day and evening. The venue for meetings is subject to change as members like to meet over dinner, morning tea or lunch, so we like to help support local businesses with our custom.

A “Pennies for Friendship” tin is used to collect money for the ACWW, and a “Trading Table” is available for members to sell their wares in an attempt to recoup membership fees. A “Branch Christmas Fund” also exists for members to contribute to throughout the year for the Christmas party.

We aim to hold at least 3 fundraisers throughout the year to help raise funds for local projects, the CWA Thanksgiving Fund and Scholarships and grants scheme, and any other causes that touch the hearts of members.

Our branch members enjoy meeting once a month for a little bit of business and a lot of fun and good company. New members are always most welcome, and to find out more about our meetings, please contact the Branch President on mbdcwa@westnet.com.au

Full membership for new members in 2009 is $46.00, and ends September 30. Junior membership is open to girls aged between 7 and 18 and is $15.00. Membership for October 1 2009 to September 30 2010 is $49.00, and junior is $16.00.
