stages of his life he was able to be out of the lung for up to 48 hours. Volunteer.drivers
with vans transported him from the Austin Hospital to his sister Mavis's home
on the Saturdays when possible where he spent the night before retuning to
the hopital on the Sunday afternoon. During his stay with Mavis he was sometimes
taken to the local cinema whose staff were most helpful in placing John's
trolly type bed to be placed in a position that enabled him to view the screen.
Other times during the summer months he was wheeled down to the nearby beach
to enjoy some sea air.
John was a very independant person, he organised for the hospitals carpenter
to construct a locable, wheelable newpaper stand, then arranged with the local
newsagent to stock it with daily newspapers & magazines, thus providing
a service for hospital staff and visitors while earning himself some pocket
money. [Photo]
An avid supporter of the Richmond AFL football team his wonderful disposition
towards life despite his tremendous disability which only allowed him a very
limit movement of one arm only, endeared him to a great many people who sadly
missed him with his passing in his 27th year.
36. Hilroy Clyde Wilkins
married an Irene who bore him 2/3 sons. Irene remarried after Hilroy Clyde
was committed to a mental hospital for the rest of his life.
