Lawn Mower Racing You Say??
Nearly 7 years ago, in the small township of Harrietville in the North east of Victoria, the sport of lawn mower racing was brought to the forefront in a fundraising event for the local Country Fire Authority. Tongue in cheek and with a fair bit of confidence, the organisers managed to raise a few thousand dollars for equipment. Not bad on their first attempt, hey? From humble beginnings to today's increasing membership, the sport of lawn mower racing in Australia is taking off. Already very popular in Europe, Great Britain, and (of course) the USA, - we seem to be a little bit late with our efforts, but be as that may, we already have worldwide interest in Australian events. What does it take? Competition mowers must have originally been sold commercially to mow lawns. Small tractors and home made look-alikes are not eligible. For anyone who is interested, the full and complete Rules are provided to financial members (eventually) but if you want to have a look at them before you join, you can either follow the link at th ebottom of the page, or send an e-mail to me, and ask for them. We are happy to send them to you. What starts off as a workhorse, can finish up being a fun machine. Racing will get into your blood. We are not go karts, we are not ag bikes, we are RIDE ON LAWN MOWERS and we LOVE TO RACE! Why not join us and turn a weekend chore into a bit of fun and excitement? Hmmm?? Categories Currently we have 4 main categories. 1. Standard mowers. Standard mowers are everyday mowers, taken out of the garden shed, remove or disable the blades, and onto the track. Play with the governor and you are still ok to race. 2. Modified mowers Recently changed to accommodate 'belt drive mowers' with a vertical drive shaft like the Briggs and Stratton or Honda motors etc. Chassis modifications to strengthen are quite ok and changes to pulleys and a biut of work on the engine is also ok. If the belt engager loosens the belt when the rider is flung off, and the mower slows or stops, then a cut off or kill switch is not necessary. 3. Super Modified B & A Classes Originally a lawn mower but with some pretty drastic modifications. Must still look like a lawn mower and can have either an engine up to 200 cc in capacity (B class) or between 201 to 400 cc in capacity (A class) |
