Remembering those who served.

On 11 November 2007 the Avenue, originally dedicated to those who fought in World War 1, was rededicated to all the men and women who have served Australia in times of conflict.
The following is an extract from the Buchan Bulletin of December 2007:On Sunday 11 November a group of approximately 100 attended the Armistice Day Rededication Ceremony at the newly restored Buchan South Avenue of Honour. President of the 'Friends of the Avenue of Honour' Zillah Houghton, extended a warm welcome to the first Remembrance Day ceremony at the Avenue. She also announced that the news arrived on Friday that the land the Avenue occupies had been officially excised from the adjoining blocks and is to be gazetted as - Public Purposes Reserve: Avenue of Honour.
In his address, Councillor Robert Haldane provided a detailed history of the Avenue of Honour, planted in the 1920s by students and residents of Buchan South, and pointed out the significance of this 'living memorial' not just to those who served in the First World War but to all those veterans who have served in times of conflict.
Local State Parliamentarian Craig Ingram, also spoke of the importance of the Avenue and was impressed with the work that had been put in to restore it.
A formal Remembrance Day ceremony with the Ode, the Last Post and a minute silence, the Reveille and National Anthem followed.
The Buchan RSL Flag was raised by David Lewien, President of Bairnsdale RSL.
Representing Orbost RSL were Sub-branch President Barry Aspinall and Patricia James, also Gwen and Lynddon Poore.
Clive Norfolk officially opened the new wrought iron gates and invited everyone in to the Avenue after Rosemary bushes were planted at the front.
