| THE AMIMA CHRISTI
Soul of Christ, sanctify me; Body of Christ, save me; Blood of Christ, inebriate me; Water from the side of Christ, wash me; Passion of Christ, strengthen me; O good Jesus hear me; Within your wounds hide me; separated from you, let me never be; From the evil one protect me; At the hour of my death, call me; And close to you bid me; That with your saints, I may be praising you forever and ever. Amen. PRAYER TO OUR LADY AFTER COMMUNION Mother, upon my lips today, Christ's precious Blood was laid: That Blood which centuries ago, was for my ransom paid. And half in love and half in fear I seek for aid from thee. Lest what I worshipped wrapped in awe, Should be profaned by me. Wilt thou partake as patrons dear, To guard my lips today. Lessons my words of idle worth, And govern all I say. Check thou the laughter or careless jest, That others harsh may find. Teach me the thoughtless words of love, That soothes the anxious mind. Put far from me all proud replies, And each deceitful tone. So at length my words may be, Faint echoes of Thine own. Oh Mother thou art mine today, By more than double right. A soul where Christ reposed must be, Most precious in thy sight. And thou canst hardly think of me, From thy dear Son apart> Then give me from myself and sin, A refuge in thy heart. Amen PRAYER OF SELF-DEDICATION TO JESUS CHRIST Lord Jesus Christ, take all my freedom, my memory, my understanding, and my will. All that I have and cherish you have given me. I surrender it all to be guided by your will. Your grace and your love are wealth enough for me. Give me these, Lord Jesus, and I ask for nothing more. (Attributed to St Ignatius Loyala) PRAYER TO OUR LORD I Beseech Thee, most sweet Lord Jesus Christ, that Thy Passion may be to me power by which I may be strengthened, protected and defended. May Thy wounds be to me food and drink by which I may be nourished, inebriated, and delighted. May the sprinkling of Thy Blood be to me an ablution for all my sins. May Thy death prove for me unfailing life, and may Thy Cross be to me eternal glory. In these be my refreshment, joy, health, and delight of my heart: Thou who livest and reignest forever. Amen. PRAYER TO SAINT THOMAS AQUINIS I give Thee thanks, O holy Lord, Father Almighty, Eternal God, Who nourish me, a sinner, and Thine unworthy servant, with the precious Body and Blood of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. I had no merits, no deserts which I could put forward in my own behalf. But let not this holy Communion, I pray Thee, turn to my judgment and condemnation: let it rather obtain for me pardon and salvation. Let it cleanse me from all my vices; let it destroy all my concupiscences and evil desires. Let it increase my charity, my patience, my humility, my obedience. Let it defend me from all my enemies, visible and invisible. Let it appease all the evil propensities of my mind and body; and guide me so straight to Thee, my true and only God, that I may look forward to Thee as the happy goal of all my endeavours. Thus lead me, I pray Thee, to that unspeakable festival, when Thou, and Thy Son, and the Holy Ghost, will be to me and all the Saints, the complete fullness, the end of hope, the everlasting joy, and the never-changing happiness: through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. |
