| Keith Sadler, a much loved and respected jazz musician, and friend of a number of members of the Geelong Jazz Club, died peacefully on the morning of 13 April at Terang.
A beautifully melodic reeds player, Keith appeared for the club on many occasions over the years. He was one of the original members of the club and played at a number of fund-raising barbecues that led to the club's formation, and which kept the club's finances going in early years. He sat in with the Des Camm Jazz City Six on the Club's official opening night, andlater in 1980 as a regular member of the band. He appeared for the club regularly after that mostly with the Des Camm band and with Mary Bould's Blue Boys, and later with Jumbo Jazz. If he had no gig, he would often turn up at the club in its early days just to listen, but inevitably, to sit in with the band. His last appearance for the club was with, Sadler's Sharpies, which he put together for Jazz at the Green in 2000. Just a closer walk... Dave Parsons. |
