| Vale Ernie Baker
7th September 1919 - 7th January 2007 It is with sadness that I advise you of the passing of one of our Geelong Jazz Club long time members in Mr Ernie Baker. Ernie passed away on Sunday the 7th of January 2007. He first joined the Club as a member in the early 80s and remained an active member until his health started to decline towards the end of 2004. Ernie Baker was a most treasured member of our dub and will be sadly missed by all, not only by members of our club but also by many of the musicians as Ernie was well known around the jazz scene. In 2005 the committee of the day of the Geelong Jazz Club rewarded Ernie and bestowed on him complementary life time membership 1n appreciation of his long time involvement and loyalty to the club. Ernie a treasured member of our club will remain in our thoughts for a very long time and on behalf of all members of the Geelong Jazz Club I extend to Geoff, Roger, Claudia and families our sincere sympathy. And we want to let you know that our thoughts are with you The funeral service of Ernie Baker was held at Scots Presbyterian Church Geelong West on Friday January the 12th 2007. It was very well attended by members from both the Geelong and the Werribee Jazz Clubs and a fitting finale to the life of Ernie Baker was by having two of his favourite jazz players and best friends in Des Camm and Barry Hirst play during the service. Ernie was a very good follower of jazz over many years and one of the numbers that Des and Barry played during the service was Just A Gigolo, a favourite of Ernie's and a very fitting number for this occasion.
