| Sad news from Adelaide of the death of two of that city's jazz musicians, Bill Munro (trumpet) and Dick Frankel (clarinet). Munro, a lyrical trumpet player, played with the Dave Dallwitz-led Southern Jazz group at the 1st Australian Jazz Convention and later played with many other significant South Australian bands. He played at Australian Jazz Conventions held in Geelong, and from my memory, several times at the Elephant and Castle in the Golden Gate Jazz Band.
Dick Frankel was a member of the significant Adelaide Black Eagle Jazz Band in the 'SOs, then went on to lead his Jazz Disciples fore many years, becoming an Adelaide jazz institution. Jan05 |
