INGLEWOOD ALL TOWN GARAGE SALE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are interested in holding a garage sale (what a great idea to clear out some of those unwanted items before Christmas!) please let us know now. It is anticipated it will be held on Saturday 22nd or 29th November. We need to know who is keen to participate so that a town garage sale map can be constructed with this information. Interested? Please phone Glynn Jarrett (ICRC Committee member) on 0447 586 640 Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal A meeting will be held at the Resource Centre on Wednesday 15th October, 2008 at 7.30pm to discuss and plan for next year’s appeal day. The Resource Centre would like to continue being involved in this worthwhile event however we need assistance to do so. We are asking for anyone in the Community who is willing to help, whether it be to sell raffle tickets, bake a cake or help on the day to come along to the meeting. If you are unable to attend but would like to help out in some way, please leave your name and number at the Centre and we will keep you informed. THE COMMUNITY GARDEN The Community Garden continues to ‘grow’. We now have a 5000 gallon water tank with1000 litres of kindly donated water. The fence on three sides is up and the material for our hothouse has been purchased. The Asian greens have been growing in abundance and some of us have been lucky enough to have a taste. Next to be planted is corn, zucchini, squash, tomatoes and pumpkin; we will be planting these from seed so they may take a while before they are on the dinner table! The cabbages at the garden site behind the Centre have been harvested and enjoyed. Two fruit trees have also been planted with 2 more to be planted early October. Funding for a tool shed has been applied for, which we hope will be successful. The garden is a project for the whole Community and needs Volunteers. If you are interested in giving a hand, have some ideas you’d like to share or just want to have a cuppa and a chat you’ll be made most welcome. You’ll find people working in the garden on Mondays and Thursdays between 8.00am – 4.00pm so, if you feel like some company just come along OR JUST DROP IN AT A TIME THAT SUITS YOU At either 11 or 33 Brooke Street, Inglewood Weed, water or just watch the world go by! As summer approaches we will need people to water, so if you have an hour or two to spare please let us know and we’ll put you on the roster. INTRODUCTION TO PERMACULTURE / CERTIFICATE 1 IN PERMACULTURE The Centre has applied for funding to assist with the cost of running another Certificate 1 in Permaculture course. This will significantly reduce the cost for participants. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED PLEASE REGISTER WITH US NOW. WORM FARMING Do you want to learn the ins and outs of worm farms? How to set one up? What to feed them and when? What you can do with the castings and your own fine drop of ‘worm wine’! Then come along to our worm farm information session to learn how it’s done. The session will be conducted by local worm farmer Jean Mc Clymont and will include a demonstration using the worm farm kit available from the Loddon Shire. When: Monday 17th November Time: 10.30am – 12noon Where: Inglewood Community Resource Centre Cost: Gold coin donation Health & Wellbeing WALKING GROUP Every Monday & Thursday at 9.00am in front of the Resource Centre Come along and join this fun, friendly group while enjoying the surrounds and seasons of Inglewood. Catch up with old friends and make some new ones all while keeping healthy. The group pace is slow to medium walking and goes for approximately an hour. Faster paced walkers can be accommodated. New walkers are always welcome but be warned the jaw gets as good a workout as the legs! PLEASE NOTE: During daylight savings we will start walking at 8.30am (commencing on Monday October 20th) and will have an evening walk on Tuesdays commencing on 21st October at 6.30pm. EVERYONE WELCOME. Cost: NIL to walk Cuppa afterwards: 50 cents YOGA Yoga is suitable for everybody and designed for all body types. Small or large, young or old yoga can be tailored just for you and your needs. No weights or vigorous exercise just basic stretching designed to use your own body’s abilities to gain results. In these classes you learn vital hints on how to use your body to your advantage. So come along and learn more about yourself and have fun at the same time. We require a minimum of 8 people for the class to go ahead *********************************************** Inner Strengths for Women: Continuing our Journey of Discovery This is a fun, safe, gentle space and time For you to discover Your Inner Strengths We sing… We paint… We write… We talk… We can do anything that may interest you… The program will continue on a fortnightly basis commencing on Monday 13th October from 1.00pm – 3.00pm Cost: $1.00 Please enrol at the Inglewood Community Resource Centre – Ph: 54383562 by Thursday 9th October We hope you will come along and join in. *********************************************** HEALTHY MINDS – We hope to establish a group in the not too distant future for members of the community who have an interest in mental health. This will provide an avenue to communicate any suggestions for the improvement of mental health in the Shire and/or the wider community. The Resource Centre has available at no cost copies of the book “Taking Care of Yourself and Your Family” for anyone who is interested. Just call in and pick one up. Art/Craft/Social Groups GAMES AFTERNOON – Eucre? 500? Scrabble? Crosswords? Bring along a friend! Fancy yourself as a bit of a card sharp or maybe you’ve got a mind like a dictionary? Then why not come along to our games afternoons and enjoy a game of cards or a board game, have fun with a friend while trying to ‘crack a cryptic’ or share a jigsaw puzzle. When: Tuesday afternoons Time: 1.00pm – 4.00pm Cost: Gold coin donation BOOK CLUB – Book Discussion/Reading Group If you enjoy a good read and a lively discussion, come along and join in our book discussion group. The format of the group is relaxed and informal and new members will be made most welcome. When: 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month Time: 1.00pm – 4.00pm Cost: Gold coin (plus reading material costs – if any) CRAFT GROUP – Needle, Knit and Natter (UFO Un-Finished Objects) This informal friendly group is for anyone who wants to finish that tapestry that’s been on the frame for years, those scrap-booking pages that need those finishing touches or anyone who has a craft and wants some company. Bring along whatever you want to do, maybe share your skills or learn some new ones. Come for an hour or two (or three!) or just a cuppa and a chat. When: Thursday afternoons Time: 1.00pm – 4.00pm Cost: $2-00 ART GROUP Our new Art Group is up and running with members doing/exploring a number of different art mediums. If you would enjoy spending a few hours with others who have the same interest why not come along and join this friendly group. You don’t have to be a Picasso, just have a love of expressing yourself through art. When: Friday mornings Time: Commences at 10.00am Cost: $2.00 EMBROIDERY Would you like to learn the art of ‘good old fashioned’ embroidery – satin, stem, cross stitches to name a few, then call in at the Centre any Friday afternoon where you can learn these stitches and many more. If you already know how to do this lovely handwork why not just come along for a cuppa and some company and share your knowledge. When: Friday afternoons Time: Commences at 1.00pm Cost: $2.00 INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY ON THE COMPUTER In this course you will learn how to fix, modify, print and share your digital images. It will also cover some basic picture taking skills. The course will be basic and user friendly and will use the imaging program Picasa, (which is a free download.) If the class has some experience in photo editing, a more advanced imaging program can be introduced. When: Wednesdays: 5th, 12th, 19th & 26th November Time: 7.00pm – 9.00pm Cost: $50-00 Tutor: Glynn Jarrett You will need your own digital camera and have some experience using a computer and file management. Please enrol at the Resource Centre by Thursday 30th October, 2008 Afternoon Delights We are hosting an afternoon tea on Saturday 25th October to catch up with Jeanette Schultz and thank her for the wonderful service she provided whilst working at Beaumont’s Chemist. Jeanette was an asset to this Community and has been sorely missed since leaving, so come along and say hello from 2.00pm. EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND A plate would be greatly appreciated. Ladies Pamper Afternoon Due to the success of our last pamper afternoon we’ve decided to have another one (and why not!) Guest Speaker will be Sandra Field – Renowned Naturopath from Tarnagulla Come along and enjoy an afternoon out with the girls. Have a good old chinwag while sharing afternoon tea. Maybe have a neck & shoulder massage, get your nails painted, or have a go at Reiki. Breast Cancer Awareness Day An afternoon tea is being held at the Centre on Monday 24th November from 2.00 pm - 4.00pm Our Guest speaker will be Noreen Nye. Come and hear and be inspired by Noreen’s interesting story as she shares her life’s journey whilst living with cancer. Everyone is most welcome to attend. Farm Chemical Users Course (2 days) The Farm Chemical Users (ChemCert) Course provides instruction in the safe use of farm chemicals. Particular topics addressed during the program include – Ø Pests, diseases and weeds of extensive farming Ø Integrated pest, disease, weed and animal health management Ø Methods of agricultural and veterinary chemical use Ø Farm chemical formulations, spray adjuvants and vat mixing Ø Safe use and handling of farm chemicals Ø Farm chemical classification Ø Legal considerations relating to farm chemical use Ø Calibration of farm chemical application and dosage equipment Ø Farm chemical mode of action groups This course enables qualification For Agricultural Chemical Users Permit (ACUP) registration in Victoria. Computer Courses & Classes We need at least 3 students to run these classes. Surfing The Internet Wave - 2 x 2 hours These sessions are designed for the people who have always wanted to have a try at the Internet but are a bit nervous! Our classes are conducted by a very patient tutor and are extremely user friendly. So why not come along and learn how to “get connected”, look up sites and have a bit of fun. When: Mondays: 13th & Friday 17th October Time: 1.30pm - 3.30pm Cost: $30.00 Tutor: Barbara Flood Setting up an Email Account – 1 x 2 ½ hours In this class you will learn how to set up a free email account using Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail and how to correspond, send photos, and even chat to family & friends all over the world. When: Tuesday 2nd December Time: 1.30pm (for approx. 1 hour) Cost: $10.00 Tutor: Gordon Picken BOOKINGS ARE REQUIRED AND CAN BE MADE AT THE CENTRE My Connected Community (mc2) ensures that community groups are provided with support and tools needed to build an online community. Mc2 provides training and online resources to enable community groups to: establish a website, publish online, network with members, extend group membership and activities & communicate with other communities of interest either down the road or overseas. The key objective of mc2 is to rapidly stimulate the development of online communities of interest within Victoria. Community Members are needed from local community groups (including cultural and sporting clubs, associations, special interest and social groups) who are willing to develop an online community of interest amongst their members and the wider population. Training is free, but you must have a valid email address. If you do not have one, we will help you set one up with Hotmail, Gmail, and Yahoo Mail etc. for free. Members who have already joined mc2 are welcome to attend any training session to build on their understanding and use of this virtual communication tool.
