The May meeting was a midday one, on Sunday May 28th at the Quarry Hill Community Hall. George Wood, ably assisted by Greg Penna, organised and ran a round robin of games. The hall was an ideal venue; it gave space for each team to move easily from game to game and to watch the style of other teams as well as other team members. George organised the small but enthusiastic crowd into teams of four or five. Each team tested their skills in skittles, hookey, darts, quoits and throwing balls into a bucket. Whew, scoring in hookey requires more mental agility than most of us possessed. Were all those hookey totals really exactly correct, I wonder? Credit was also given when each team lined up quickly at the end of each round. How they scrambled to get those extra points! Greg Penna and his team were declared winners, followed closely by Chris Nanere and team. Congratulations to all for their efforts. Our thanks go to: George for his organisation both before and during the games tournament, Greg for negotiating for the hall, also for helping George, Helen Bruinier for scoring, Etty Lerk who made sure that though there were no official hosts this month, the catering still flowed smoothly - and to all members who brought food, as usual, who helped in the dishwashing and general cleaning up - and who by their enthusiastic participation helped make the day so enjoyable. |
