Our June meeting was on Saturday evening 23 June, at Zeffy and Paul Denham's home. Our thanks go to them for their warm hospitality. Thank you too Paul for that unexpected extra entertainment towards the end of our night. Noemi Cummings (together with her husband John) and David Perry, from the Bendigo Regional Ethic Communities Council, were special guests. After the usual delicious Indonesian meal Noemi and David gave an absorbing talk on the formation and activities of BRECC. Until recently BRECC's main role has been to support the business migrants in our community. However, with the recent influx of Sudanese and other African refugees to Castlemaine and the recent and continuing arrival of Karen refugees (from Myanmar) to Bendigo, BRECC's role is changing and the need for its services is increasing. Our thanks go to Noemi and David for their most informative and interesting talk and to all who contributed to making the night a success. |
