Resourcesmart Snippets Junior Class Waste-Wise Work

Following on from our video session (in the big class) that highlighted the devastating effects our rubbish can have on marine wildlife, the little class compared packaging and prices of commonly used lunch items.

Note that the cardboard is recyclable!
Image Individual packaging
Unfortunately there is more packaging and none of it is recyclable. Also the cost per 100g is considerably higher with the individual serves!
Image Drink containers
In East Gippsland, the foil lined tetra packs are not recyclable. Therefore, only the bulk container is recyclable. Per litre, the bulk container is also considerably cheaper for the same type/quality of juice!

Mikayla noted - “We stuck the rubbish on the big piece of paper. We ate all the food.” Tyler said - “The more packaging, the more cost.” Other comments from the activity … Emma – “Buy a large packet and bring enough biscuits for your lunch in a plastic container.” Brayden and Ivan - “Don’t let it go in the water as the turtles or sharks might eat it and get sick and die.” Charlie – “Don’t leave rubbish outside.”
