ENERGY - REASONABLE TEMPERATURES & TIMERS
Air conditioning is used to both heat and cool school rooms. We are working to ensure that reasonable temperature settings are set, and that the timer capabilities are used to ensure that the units are not accidently left on overnight, or over the weekend.
It is also important to dress correctly - ie if you are cold put on a jumper before you put on the heater.

ENERGY - WASTED ENERGY
During those times when heating or cooling is required, we are working to ensure that doors and windows are kept closed. Likewise during warm weather, adequate ventilation may be all that is required to maintain a good working temperature.

ENERGY - COMPUTER USE
Schools classrooms contain mutliple computers. Furthermore, as the size of computer monitors increase and processor speeds also increase, their power needs increase. Therefore, classroom computers should be shut down once their use is no longer required for that day.

ENERGY - LIGHTING
Like computers, lighting uses significant amounts of power; and unlike computers it's quick to turn back on. So if leaving a classroom for an outdoor activity or another classroom, the lights can be switched off.

ENERGY - NATIONAL SOLAR SCHOOLS PROGRAM
The Australian Government is backing our schools in the fight against climate change. The National Solar Schools Program is giving Australian schools a head start in tackling climate change and conserving our precious water supplies.
National Solar Schools offers grants of up to $50 000 (GST exclusive) to install solar and other renewable power systems, solar hot water systems, rainwater tanks and a range of energy efficiency measures. We are in the process of applying for such a grant.

| Clifton Creek Primary School's main energy source is mains electricity. Energy savings can be made through sensible and efficent heating, cooling, computer use and lighting. We are working on improvements in these areas.
Through the Solar Schools Program, we hope to produce solar electricity; taking from the state grid during peak hours and contributing to the state grid outside of school hours. There will be many educational opportunities, as well as environmental advantages if we are successful in our application! |
