Biodiversity Module - Tree Audit July 09
Kirralee, Emma and Gymea did a tree audit of the trees planted in 2007. Lots had died! (Only 10 out of 73 survived - 13%). Four suggestions that may help with the next lot of trees we plant are:water them more, keep the guards up, be careful not to break the trees when playing near them and have tree monitors.

Core Module-Tali entering SETS data 3rd August 2009
I put all the waste bills on the SETS website so that we would know how much waste the school had produced each month. There was a lot more waste than last year and we think it was because we have new buildings and students. We need to try and make it go down again by making less rubbish.

Where does the rubbish in our school ground go?
Today we watched some video clips about what happens to people's waste, particularly plastic, that is dropped on the ground or blows out of the bin. Often it ends up in the ocean! Look what it does to the ocean animals.

Waste - comparing packaging
We bought some of the foods we eat every day at school. We bought them in big packages and in small packets for just one person. We stuck all the packets on a big piece of paper. We compared how much rubbish and the costs. There was heaps more rubbish from the 'single serve' packs. Littler packets meant more cost! Buy food in big packets and bring a serve for yourself in a re-usable plastic container. At the end we got to eat all the food!!

Tree planting at our school
This year our school joined in National Tree Planting Day.
We planted trees around our school in small groups.
When we were planting our trees, we planted them with a mixture of worm castings, water crystals and a native plant mix.
All the worm castings came from our worm farm at school.
Small groups of children go with Hollie to water the trees.
I really hope that all the trees will survive. By Jess J (Detailed plans are available in the Biodiversity section of ResourceSmart)

| Each week a few students are Enviro Monitors for an afternoon. They participate in activities with the Enviro Co-ordinator. |
