Potential for the arts

The group believes the heritage areas of the site offer enormous potential as an arts precinct. Architecturally the site is unique. It is a reminder of the industrial past upon which the suburb of Brunswick was built. The spaces both within and around the buildings are vast. Much of the original machinery is still visible and intact.

History / Overview of site

The Hoffman Brickworks ceased operation in 1993. Part of the site is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register, whilst the whole of the site is within an Urban Conservation Area in the Moreland Planning Scheme. The site contains two Hoffman kilns (originally three), a brick pressing plant and pottery sheds. The site is currently owned by a private developer, however Moreland Council has a financial interest in one of the kilns. The owner has constructed and sold some 350 residences on portions of the site.
