Guest speaker - Dr. John Carter

John Carter has been actively campaigning to protect heritage values of the Don Valley Brickworks in East York, Ontario for the past ten years. He is a former chair of the East York Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee, former executive member of the Toronto Preservation Board, and currently a member of the Education Committee of Community Heritage Ontario. He is currently in Australia on a Visiting Fellowship, History Program, Research School of Social Sciences, Australian National University. John is in Melbourne as a guest of the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Save the Brickworks Inc. He will be giving two illustrated talks to the public.

The focus of the evening will be the challenges of conserving industrial heritage places without destroying their essential industrial character. There will be plenty of time for discussion about the issues and challenges raised in John's talk and by the audience.
