The Don Valley Brickworks represents the next stage in the historical
evolution of kiln design after the circular design of the Hoffmans
Brickworks.
The continous-firing design of the Hoffman kilns evolved into a tunnel design whereby green bricks on trolleys were drawn through a tunnel kiln which was fired continuously.
